Salty sticks with cheese

Few ingredients, not much effort, and the taste is yummy… Enjoy with friends and family!

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The secret ingredient is always cheese.

Something yummy for your loved ones

I’ve prepared the crunchy salty sticks with cheese for a while now and every time is a success. My husband and our son love cheese and every time I redo this recipe they are eating with the same pleasure.  And, I’m happy when I find such a recipe to thrill their taste buds.

For the sake of diversity I, sometimes, change the seeds I sprinkle them with. However, the ones with caraway fruits are the most demanded and appreciated.

The salty sticks with cheese can be served as an appetizer when you have friends over and I’m pretty sure you will impress them too. For instance, Moroccans don’t usually start their meals with something salty but I tried and they loved them.

You can also serve them as a snack, it will keep you full for quite a while.   For those careful with their caloric intake, don’t indulge too much… it’s a calorie bomb!

Prep time: 15 min

TOTAL time: 35 min

Ingredients:

-500 g all-purpose flour
-300 g hard cheese (Parmesan, Gouda, Edam, Cheddar, Grana Padano)
-150 g salted butter
-100 g sour cream
-3 eggs
-salt
-poppy seeds, sesame seeds or caraway fruits

Instructions:

-grate the cheese and butter through the grater,

-add the sour cream and then 2 eggs,

-add the flour,

-season with salt if needed (if the cheese isn’t salty),

-optional: add either caraway fruits or poppy seeds (You can just sprinkle them with the seeds. I prefer to add to the dough because we love a strong flavor of caraway fruits),

-knead until it becomes a slightly soft dough,

-preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius,

-stretch the dough out (not too thin), anoint it with 1 beaten egg and then with a knife cut the sticks,

-sprinkle them with the seeds you prefer,

-place them on a tray with a few mm distance in between to not stick,

-place them in the oven for 20 minutes until golden.

Leave them to cool for 1 hour and serve them. You can keep them for up to 4 days and they are still delicious (mine didn’t “survive” for longer than that….they were gone!).

Enjoy the reactions of your family!
