In every country we visit or even in our home country we have a favorite spot, a place that has a wonderful vibe and speaks to our soul, a place that relaxes us and recharges us with energy. Well, this is Taghazout for me.
There are many places I love in Morocco, for different reasons, but Taghazout has that “something” special that calls me over and over again.
We go to Taghazout almost every weekend and every time it’s different: the sky, the ocean, the light, the sun, the many tourists and surfers that enjoy the waves as a kid enjoys its new toy.
Facts that make Taghazout special and why it’s a must-see if in Morocco:
– It’s a surfer’s paradise listed by National Geographic as one of the best surf towns in the world.
Taghazout is a world-famous surfing spot that is considered Morocco’s premier surfing destination. It’s a former fishing village that now has modern seaside resorts where surfing and other water surface sports are the main attraction. It’s also renowned among travelers, surfers, and yogis for its laid back pace and world-class waves.
– Located 40 min from Agadir International Airport, it’s a short hop from most Central European cities.
It’s the closest place for any European surfer to get year round warm water, perfect waves, and a unique cultural experience.
-Stands out for its wonderful setting.
More than 5 km of fine white sand beaches (well, with other smaller villages around) are bound by the High Atlas Mountains that offers breathtaking views.
– The gentle climate and the mild temperature year-round makes it a perfect spot for enjoying the sun and relaxing.
– It’s easily reachable: an approximate 20 min ride with the car or taxi from Agadir and around 45 min ride with the bus. The price of the bus ticket is 7 dirhams (less than 1,50 euros) and a taxi will cost you between 190 and 240 dirhams (around 20 euros).
– If you enjoy eating fish and sea-food Taghazout offers plenty of dishes with these ingredients.
All the terraces and restaurants in the town offer delicious dishes with good prices (a tajine with fish will cost around 3 euros or a grilled fish dish with beverage included is around 4 – 5 euros).
– Variety of accommodations, either you are looking for a cheaper place to stay at or a resort, Taghazout has it all.
Actually, 5 years ago when I visited Taghazout for the first time the town didn’t have anything to do with what is Taghazout today. It was more savage, lots of empty fields and lands where you could find only sheep grazing. Unfortunately, it’s not the case anymore. The entire area of Taghazout and the other smaller villages around are in constructions, many new touristic resorts are built and this somehow ruins the place. You know it, good for the economy not good for nature!
– If you are not a great swimmer and don’t enjoy any water sports, don’t worry.
Taghazout has a newly constructed boardwalk of around 5 km that stretches along the ocean. It starts in Taghazout and continues through Tamaghart up to the Devil’s Rock (a huge rock in the ocean where you’ll see lots of the fishermen).
– Do you like eating bananas?
Great, just 10 min taxi ride from Taghazout you will find the sweetest bananas you can ever taste, in Aourir aka Banana Village. If you drive from Agadir to Taghazout than you will pass through Aourir.
– Most of the terraces and restaurants in the city offer an amazing view of the ocean because they are located just on the coast.
More, some of them are built on the top of the rocks on the beach and sometimes if the waves are strong you can get sprinkled with water. Note: for those with young kids it’s a bit stressful because there is the danger of falling in the water. So, you will have to pay great attention and don’t let your kids roam around alone.
– Are you a nature lover?
– Did I mention the delicious smoothies you can have on any of the terraces?
I guess not yet. Well, avocado, orange, bananas or any other seasonal fruits are freshly blended so you can enjoy them while sitting in the sun.
–Located at the crossroads of Arab-Muslim and Amazigh civilizations.
Exploring Taghazout and the surrounding area will expose you to nomadic art traditions and all sorts of crafts made from wood and rock and local music.

There are lots of places in Taghazout that offer surfing classes and yoga holidays for different prices, depending on the package and the number of the days (starting from 250 euros – for 5 days and goes up to more than 1,000 euros – for 15 days).
